Remco Dijkman, PhD

Remco studied Life Sciences and Technology at the Saxion University of Applied Sciences, where he graduated in 2000 with specialization in Molecular Biology. In 2000 he started working in the Leiden University Medical Center as a Junior Scientist in the department of Dermatology. He was involved in research into the molecular pathogenesis of cutaneous lymphoma. In 2007 he started working as a molecular biologist at the R&D department of the Dutch Food and Consumer Products Safety Authority. There he was responsible for the development and implementation of molecular diagnostics for Foodborne pathogens (e.g. Salmonella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria, norovirus and hepatitis A virus). Since 2010 he works as molecular biologist in the R&D department of GD Animal Health. First in the R&D laboratory and from 2013 as a senior scientist. He is mainly working on the development of molecular diagnostic tests and molecular epidemiology and also participates as teacher within GD Academy on these subjects. In 2016 Remco obtained his PhD degree from the University of Utrecht with his thesis “Advances in Diagnostics and Molecular Typing of Mycoplasma synoviae”. For one of the papers from this thesis he received in 2017 the Bart Rispens Research Award for the best paper in Avian Pathology in the years 2015 and 2016.
