Biography

Theo Lam

Theo Lam is manager Research and Development at GD Animal Health. He is also part-time professor bovine mastitis management and milk quality at the department of Farm Animal Health, faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University.

Theo graduated as a veterinarian in 1990 and received his PhD in 1996 based on a thesis on the dynamics of bovine mastitis in low somatic cell count dairy herds. After his graduation he went to private practice, mainly working as a veterinarian in herd health advisory as well as in ambulatory work. In 2006 he left practice and started working for GD, being responsible for the Dutch Udder Health Centre, a five year national program to further improve udder health in the Netherlands. Additionally he was responsible for ruminant field research at GD.

In 2011 Theo was appointed as a part-time (0,2) professor at Utrecht University in addition to his work at GD. In 2012 he became manager Research and Development at GD, being responsible for the R&D department that is active in different animal species. He also is a member of the Management Team of GD.

Theo has published over 120 papers in scientific journals and has given presentations on subjedts such as udder health, antibiotic use and communication all over the world. He is one of the authors of ‘Communication in Practice, the vet’s manual on cliententhusiasm’ (available in Dutch, English and Spanish) and of the ‘Handbook on udder health’ (only available In Dutch).

Theo is an active board member in several organizations, both within and outside the veterinary field.
