Biography
Frederik was born on June 17th, 1977 in The Hague, The Netherlands. He grew up in different countries of the world: Soviet Union, Thailand, Egypt, Belgium, United States of America and The Netherlands.
He studied Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University and graduated in 2004. In the last phase of his studies he worked at Intervet (veterinary pharmaceutical company) in France for a year as a researcher. After graduation he worked for 10 years in large animal practices in Holland, mostly dairy cattle. His specific interests were fertility, infectious diseases, practice management and contract research & field trials for pharmaceutical companies. He was also affiliated for more than five years with the Department of Farm Animal Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, were he was a practical lecturer for students in their last phase of their studies.
Since 2014 he works at GD Animal Health (now Royal GD) in Deventer with exclusive focus on the bovine infectious diseases IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheïtis) and BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhea). He was part of the national project team that made preparations for compulsory programs for the dairy industry to conquer IBR and BVD. Together with his team, they give scientific and practical advice on the technical aspects of the IBR and BVD eradication programs by consulting veterinarians and farmers. Primarily he is an expert on all IBR veterinary technical aspects.
He is also involved in assuring animal welfare on Dutch farms by working in on-call acute intervention teams when there is a suspicion of possible animal neglect.
