Out now: Highlights report small ruminants

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) in the UK reported in January that the number of cases of congenital abnormalities in lambs caused by Schmallenberg virus (SBV) had increased across the UK since the end of 2023.

A total of 63 cases were confirmed by APHA between 1 December 2023 and 16 January 2024. Also in the Netherlands, the Veekijker has received several reports of lambs with congenital abnormalities since the beginning of 2024. Pathological examination has confirmed that the deformities in the lambs reported are the result of SBV infection.
