Since September 2023, a field study has been running to evaluate the effectiveness of two bird flu vaccines on Dutch poultry farms. Previous laboratory research showed that these vaccines were effective against infection and transmission of the H5 bird flu virus. To confirm these results, 1,800 day-old chicks are now being monitored in a field trial.

Royal GD is collaborating with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), WBVR, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University to track the results.

The study, which will continue until the end of 2025, is a crucial step towards developing a large-scale vaccination strategy against bird flu.
